Sitting in the london airport on hour 26 of travel so far with much more to go! Wanted to take a moment to recap the remainder of the trip. We moved into the mission house in KaHhoyi and were so lucky to be able to experience everyday life with the kiddos and show to love of Jesus through relationships. We would have the early morning to have quiet time or hang out with the kids in the yard for a bit. Then we would work during the morning/early afternoon. My favorite part of each day was being silly and playing games with the kids in the afternoons.
Our main project was to clear out the garage and paint it. The garage will be transformed into a place for activities such as playing games, doing homework, to watch movies, build relationships, do gospel based activities, and more! The very large garage was PACKED which was a little intimidating but kids, teenagers, and adults from the community came together and helped us clear it out in one day!! It was amazing to see the community unite and genuinely want to help and work alongside us.
We painted then added a cross with Go Missions’ mission verse, Matthew 28:19. This will be a wall future teams can add verses that are meaningful to them or stick out to them on their trip.
We painted the map of South Africa and the United States. Future team members from different states will be able to color in their home states. This is a great tool to be able to see the future growth of Go Missions and will be a way kids can learn where their friends come from and see that they have friends all over the USA!
We spent a morning at Mbongozi Boarding School, a school for deaf children my first team spent a weak at, to plant fruit trees. It’s Christmas break for the kids so we unfortunately were unable to see them this trip. We prayed over the trees and kids as we finished planting.
I am so incredibly grateful for this last week with the kids. It has been so bittersweet. It’s been so sweet seeing how much the kids have grown and changed and what aspects of their personalities have stayed the same. It’s been so bitter knowing how much I missed of them growing up in these last two years and how much more I will miss in the future. Although it gives me peace knowing this won’t be the last time I’m there!
Until next time South Africa. I love and miss you dearly.
